A civil court has issued notices to the Deputy Commissioner and the Municipal Corporation after taking note of a petition that alleged mismanagement of paid parking lots in the city. It was part of two petitions that had came up for hearing before the Court of Pritpal Singh, Civil Judge. The other petition pertained to the presence of stray cattle, beggars and petty vendors on city streets. The petitioners Rajesh Kumar and Amita Gupta through their counsel Pankaj Chandgothia had contended that stray cattle was jeopardising the life and safety of commuters. Beggars and petty vendors were obstructing free flow of traffic. The petitioner alleged that the Traffic Police were busy issuing challans and turned a blind eye to these problems. Chandgothia has sought directions to the Chandigarh Administration, Municipal Corporation and SP Traffic for the removal of all such obstacles and distractions from the road to ensure citizen safety. The second case relates to the mismanagement of paid parking lots in the city. The petitioners have contended that there are various deficiencies and defects in the paid parking system. The attendants are not in uniform nor have identity cards. The parking lots are over-crowded and more vehicles are put in than can be properly parked. The fee is wrongly charged at entry points and there are no attendants to help while parking or exiting. There are no CCTV cameras. The petition says that the administration and MCC has failed to check and regulate the parking contractors. No counterfoil or record of issued slips is maintained. Taking note of the petition, the Court has issued notices to Deputy Commissioner and Municipal Corporation.
