Cow dung is keeping the lights burning in part of California during the current energy crisis. Leo Langerwerf's cows churn out enough manure to run a specialised power plant that can light 40 homes. Altogether, 1,000 small power producers combine to generate a third of the state's energy, burning sawdust and walnut shells - among other things - to generate electricity.
