The con and racket that goes in the name of welfare schemes is common knowledge. But now there is a report quantifying it. The Independent South Asian Commission on Poverty Alleviation (ISACPA) says poverty in India, Bangladesh and Pakistan can be reduced by 25% if they can curb existing corruption level to those prevailing in nations with the highest reputation of honest dealing. Quoting an earlier survey by the World Bank, ISACPA says "by reducing corruption, Bangladesh could add between 2.1 and 2.9 per cent to the annual per capita GDP growth... Similar evidence are also available for India and Pakistan".
