It is indeed a "people's dam". Over 600 people from 40 nearby villages joined hands to materialise "Asha 2000"-- an earthen check dam project on the Alanka river in Balikuda block of the cyclone-hit Jagatsinghpur district. They proved a poin to governmental agencies by taking up the project in right earnest. Bureaucrats, including the chief secertary, who visited the site were amazed at the determination of the people.
