Deadly no longer, declares the Environment Pollution Control Authority for NCR, as the Capital begins moving on lead-free petrol from tomorrow. That means, Delhi's 30 lakh vehicles, including buses, cars, trucks, three and two wheelers, will no longer be held responsible for the alarming incidence of lead poisoning that has begun to play havoc with the physical and mental well-being of citizens, in the past decade. For the first time, several agencies have made a host of commitments to ensure supply of lead-free petrol to the Capital. The Petroleum Minitry has re-worked policy, while the various oil corporations have agreed to not only make petrol lead-free, but also keep the level of benzene under five per cent. Thanks to this move, the need for convertor has been done away with.
