Denmark's Energy Minister Svend Auken said late last week five new offshore windmill parks should be completed by 2001. Auken in a letter to Denmark's Public Party said the wind power projects would cost around 8.6 billion Danish crowns and have a combined effect of 750 megawatts. The Danish government has a goal of building offshore windmill plants with a total effect of 4,000 megawatt. According to the Kyoto Protocol, Denmark pledged to cut emissions of greenhouse gases by 21 percent by 2012, compared with 1990 emission levels.
