Can the opening up of the economy and globalisation of trade lift millions out of poverty? To find an answer, one has to analyse the situation in rich countries which practice and propagate this theory and are bent on thrusting their prevailing systems on the Third World. Unfair trade practices in the name of globalisation and unilateral opening up of economies by the developing countries have placed the common man in the Third World in a seriously disadvantageous position. It has also put the poor in the developed world in a spot.
