DPR for Zuari, Cumbarjua rivers nationalisation completed: Union minister

The Centre has confirmed that a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the nationalisation of Rivers Zuari and Cumbarjua has been completed while the tendering process for fairway development of Mandovi and Zuari Rivers under engineering, procurement and construction contract is being initiated. Union Minister of State in the Ministry of Shipping Pon Radhakrishnan stated this in response to question tabled by MP Shantaram Naik in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday. Radhakrishnan further stated that the Environment Impact Assessment (EIA)/Environment Management Plan (EMP)/Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) and wild life clearance studies have also been initiated. “As regards to Chapora, Mapusa and Sal rivers, prefeasibility study has been completed,” the reply added. The minister also stated that RITES India Ltd, Gurgaon has been engaged for preparation of DPR for Mandovi, Zuari Rivers and Cumbarjua Canal, Tractebel Engineering Pvt Ltd, Gurgaon for preparation of DPR for Sal, Mapusa and Chapora Rivers and WAPCOS India Ltd, Gurgaon for preparation of EIA /EMP/CRZ and Wild Life Clearance report. “The expenditure incurred earlier on preparation of DPRs is Rs 42 lakh. The expenditure likely to be incurred would be based on an assessment of the recommendations to be implemented in the study reports. The requisite permissions required under various statutes such as environmental clearance are obtained on need basis from the concerned authorities of Central and State Governments,” the union minister’s reply states.
