A draft national blood policy finalised by the National Blood Transfusion Council has been submitted to the government for approval. The policy measures finalised last week by the council headed by Mr J V R Prasad Rao, additional secretary in the ministry of health, relate to the costing structure for processing blood, allowing purchase of blood by private hospitals, and standardisation of operating procedures by blood banks, an official release says.
