Draft plan focus on reversing eco erosion

The draft of the National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (NBSAP), which took 30 months in preparation, focuses on conserving biodiversity for the protection of ecological and livelihood security of the country. According to Mr. Ashish Kothari, Coordinator of the Technical and Policy Core Group for NBSAP preparation, the final document is expected to be out within a few months. The draft document aims at a three-fold objective to reverse the erosion of the ecological and livelihood security. This includes conservation of biodiversity, ensuring its sustainable use and also ensuring that the benefits accruing from biodiversity conservation is equitably distributed.
