Duty free import allowed for mega power projects

The Union Cainbet on Friday allowed duty free import of equipment as part of a new policy to promote the setting up of mega power projects for creating a total generation capacity of 20,000 MW. The mega power policy was cleared by the Cabinet at a meeting on Friday night, power minister P R Kumarmangalam told reporters. Power plants of large capacity will be set up under the policy to supply electricity to more than one state at an economical cost.
