Delhi's share in total national employment is 4.12 per cent. And according to the 5th Economic Census conducted in Delhi by the Directorate of Economics and Statistics during the months of May-June 2005, the figure is much more than 25 other states and union territories in India. About 7,53,795 enterprises were operating in Delhi during 2005, a jump of over 10 per cent since the last survey in 1998. Of the 40.8 lakh total workers employed in various enterprises in Delhi, about 35.68 lakh (87.45 per cent) were male, while only 3.78 lakh (9.26 per cent) were female. These are the other findings of the 2005 Census, which were released by Delhi Planning and Finance Minister A.K. Walia recently.
