Efforts on to develop gas hydrates as alternative energy

Some 375 billion cubic meter of methane is available as gas hydrate and free gas in the ocean bottom in the economic ocean zone of the country. The government is developing new technologies to tap these huge reserves and this gas may become a major source of energy in the next two decades. This was revealed at the Indo-Russain workshop on 'Gas Hydrates' that opened in New Delhi on Monday.
