There are many cities in the State, which are known by their reservoirs. These water tanks not only give a unique identity to a city, but also prove a boon for its residents. One of these water reservoirs is Singwasa Talab in Guna city. The reservoir has been helpful in water supply in the city apart from playing an important role in maintaining the groundwater table. The Singwasa Talab built around 75 years ago had been losing its existence gradually. Due to silting it could store less water. On the initiative of Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, the district administration took up the task of renovating Singwasa Talab under Jalabhishek Abhiyan. The efforts by the district administration were also supported by local people's representatives, businessmen, social workers, media persons and citizens. The efforts to restore Singwasa Talab to its past grandeur were started with public participation on May 9. The water reservoir was not only deepened, but was also beautified. As much as 21,329 square metre silt was dug out from the reservoir bed due to which the tank's water holding capacity will increase by 2.25 crore litres. People contributed about Rs 25 lakh for deepening work and transportation of silt. Minister of State for General Administration KL Agrawal not only put in his contribution in restoring the reservoir but also did shramdan (voluntary labour) to motivate common people. The process of shramdan and people's participation in the work is continuing for the last one month. The district collector informed that an action plan was chalked out for restoration of Singwasa Talab with taking all the sections into confidence. As per the action plan, banks and west wear of the reservoir were also repaired. A one-kilometre canal will be constructed to release surplus water of the reservoir in a stop-dam. An action plan has been chalked out to repair the nearby stop-dams at Kalapata and Banskheri. As per the action plan, a beautiful park is being developed near the reservoir. In future, this spot will become a tourist attraction. The reservoir is now ready to receive the water of monsoon, which is round the corner. After it, the reservoir will regain its lost grandeur apart from supplying copious water to the Guna residents.
