Eight killed in Uttar Pradesh as rain lashes North India

Rain-related incidents claimed eight lives in Uttar Pradesh on Sunday with moderate to heavy showers lashing most parts of North India. It was a pleasant day in the national Capital with cloud covers keeping the temperatures within the normal level. During the past 24 hours ending at 8-30 a.m. in the morning, the city received a total of 44.2 mm rains while rainfall between 8-30 a.m. to 5-30 pm in the day was recorded at 0.2 mm. The maximum temperature was recorded at 33.1 degrees Celsius which was one degree below the normal level while the minimum was recorded at 24.4 degrees Celsius, two degree below the normal level. The weatherman has predicted a generally cloudy sky on Monday with possibility of rains and thundershowers in some areas. In Uttar Pradesh, eight persons lost their lives in rain-related incidents in the last 24 hours with moderate to rather heavy showers lashing several areas in the State. Seven persons, including three children were killed and five others injured in separate incidents of house collapse due to rains in Kannauj and Azamgarh districts, whereas one death was reported from Barabanki district, officials said. Accroding to Central Water Commission, major rivers like the Ganga, the Yamuna, the Sharda and the Ghagra continued to flow above the danger mark. Meanwhile, the desert State of Rajasthan witnessed heavy showers with Sawaimadhopur and Baseri recording the maximum rainfall at 7 cm each. Merta received 6 cm rainfall, followed by Pishangan, Bardi, Pipalda, Nokha 5 cm each, and Rajakhera, Tizara, Nagarport and Nainwa 4 cm each respectively, Met office said here. The South-West Monsoon will get weak over the State in the next 48 hours as its trough is moving towards Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, a forecast said. In Punjab and Haryana, maximum temperatures on Sunday continued to hover around the normal level even as rains lashed several areas in the region. Chandigarh recorded a maximum temperature of 33.2 degrees Celsius while in Haryana, Hisar’s high settled at 33 degrees C and Ambala registered a near similar maximum of 33.4 degrees C. In Punjab, heavy rains continued to lash Amritsar (93 mm), with the maximum settling at 28.4 degrees C, down five degrees. Ludhiana and Patiala also received rainfall. The Met officials forecast moderate to rather heavy rain or thunder showers at many places in the neighbouring States until Monday. In Himachal Pradesh, light rains occurred in isolated areas as the maximum temperatures rose marginally at several places in the hilly State. Kasauli in Solan district received 12 mm of rains while Manali recorded 7mm rains, followed by Seobagh 6 mm and Bhuntar 5 mm. Bhunter in Kullu district was the hottest in the State with maximum temperature at 32 degrees Celsius while Una and Sundernagar recorded a high of 31.8 degrees and 31.5 degrees respectively.
