'Through electronic beams, vendors can increase shelf life of vegetables and fruits,'he said.
This new technology would replace the existing one used for preservation of vegetables at Choithram Mandi. Electronic beams developed by the Agriculture Radiation Processing Facility ( ARPF) of the RRCAT can also preserve food grains for several days.
With the use of the electronic beams farmers can also increase life of their foodgrains and export to places for good bargain, Gupta said. The RRCAT has collaborated with the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre ( BARC) for the development of the technology.
