Asia must use oil more efficiently and develop alternative sources. In Asia, foresight on the oil front seems nowhere on government priority lists. The Crisis put on hold many energy-saving plans. But even as Asian economies recover, fuelling demands for oil, projects such as urban mass-transit rail systems remain on backburners. Changing old patterns may cost money, but the long-term benefits are enormous. (editorial)
