Energy policies of IEA countries

  • 11/11/1998

In a report released, the International Energy Agency (IEA) praises the Austrian government's progress in recent years, such as improvement of security of supply through diversification of gas supply sources and abolishing import licenses for fossil fuels. Austria also has a very good record of low CO2 emission due to extensive use of hydro and other renewable energy sources. The report, entitled 'Energy Policies of IEA Countries - Austria - 1998 Review' recongnises the important challenge the Austrian government faces to introducing more competition in the energy sector.
