Energy-saving LED lights to be installed in big cities

The state government has agreed in principle to install third-generation and ultramodern LED lights in the areas under all the municipal corporations in the state. For this, open tenders will be invited from various agencies and the agency quoting best rates will be assigned the job.
A meeting on the issue was held at Directorate of Urban Administration here today where Esko Company made its presentation in this connection. According to the presentation, the expenditure on installing LED lights can be met from the saving made on power bill. The presentation claimed that due to installation of LED lights, there will be 35 to 40 per cent saving in the present power bills of municipal corporations.
At present, tube-lights are being used by Bhopal Municipal Corporation in streetlights which consume 1,70,31,630 kilowatt power annually. If tube-lights with electronic chokes are installed in place of conventional tub-lights, the power consumption will come down by 45 per cent to 1,10, 69,336 kilowatts annually. Due to it, the corporation will save Rs 221.80 lakh on power bills while the expenditure on installing such lights will be Rs 227 lakh. Installation of LED lights will further lessen power consumption.
On the recommendation of Bureau of Energy Efficiency of the Urban Administration Department, the state government has agreed in principle to install these lights in Bhopal, Gwalior, Ujjain, Sagar, Ratlam, Khandwa, Burhanpur, Dewas, Katni, Singrauli, Satna and Rewa municipal corporations. According to the presentation, the company will bear the expenses on changing the lights and maintaining them for the next five years. In return, the municipal corporations will pocket 80 per cent of the saving made on the power bills while 20 per cent will be given to the company for maintenance of the system.
Those present at the meeting included Principal Secretary Raghav Chandra, Secretary Urban Administration and Development SPS Parihar, Commissioner SN Mishra, BEE Sanjeev Garg, chief engineer KK Shrivastava, commissioners of various municipal corporations, engineers and officers.
