The European Commission denied a British newspaper report that it planned to scrap its research programmes into energy efficiency and renewable sources of power. The Independent on Sunday said the Commissioner in charge of energy policy at the European Union's executive body, Loyola de Palacio, was planning to scrap the Save and Altener schemes.
