One of the UK's experts in the spread of infectious diseases said he had consistently been refused access to the UK government's information database about BSE, or "mad cow disease". In written evidence to the BSE inquiry, Roy Anderson, professor of epidemiology at Oxford University, said he was refused all access to the database, held at the Central Veterinary Laboratory, between 1989 and 1991, when he gave up in frustration.
