ExxonMobil has beaten Royal Dutch/Shell to take the lead role in the $15bn South Ghawar gas development project.The project is the largest of the long term, upstream gas agreements that Prince Saud-l-Faisal, Saudi Arabia's foreign minister, signed with international oil companies in Jeddah.
