The design of the 500 MW Prototype Fast Breeder Reactor (PFBR) proposed during the ninth plan at Kalpakkam has been fully optimised and the site work will start in 1999-2000. The prototype sodium pump has exceeded design specifications in the hydraulic test and technology development was in full swing, Dr Placid Rodriguez, Director, Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research (IGCAR) told.
