The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission said it will hold a July 8 public meeting to discuss the environmental impact from U.S. utilities forming regional transmission organisations (RTOs). Earlier this week, FERC approved a plan for utilities to voluntarily form RTOs by the end of 2001 to streamline management of the nation's vast electrical power grid. On Friday, FERC said it would also take a look at the environmental impact from the formation of new RTOs. The agency invited industry, green groups and others to submit comments by June 14, and said it would hold a public meeting on July 8.
