First step toward early mad-cow test reported

Scientists in Scotland have found a first clue that may lead to a way to diagnose mad-cow disease early in the infection. Scientists have been seeking a means of diagnosing the disease, called bovine spongiform encephalopathy, or BSE, and its human form - new variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease - in order to prevent it from being spread by people and animals who do not yet show symptoms.
