Floods render 103 families homeless at Anpum, Loklung

Incessant downpour for the past week has swelled the water level of Yomgo River above the danger mark and the flood water left a trail of devastation in Liromoba constituency of West Siang district.
Paddy fields at Kambu village have been completely washed away and more than fifty-two households of the area have been affected by nature’s fury. Kambu is one of the most populated villages under Liromoba constituency which is yet to be connected by road, has witnessed one of the worst flood situation ever.
Considering the grim situation, local MLA Nyamar Karbak along with ADC Niken Lollen, CO Sara Borang, EE WRD Tadam Kamcham trekked to the Kambu village from Rui village to assess the damage on Sunday. While responding to the verbal representation submitted by ASM Gamli Niri, he assured to construct a flood control protection wall along Yomgo River to contain further erosion.
He further announced Rs 10000/- each for the worst affected families and directed the ADC to submit the reports of damage of properties to the government at earliest. The ADC, meanwhile, announced Rs 14500/- compensation for the major damage household and Rs 5000/- for the partially damaged ones. Paglam CO Tatling Pertin in a report informed that almost 103 families have been affected by flood water at Anpum and Loklung villages under Paglam Circle in Lower Dibang Valley district.
73 houses were totally washed out while a lift water tank at Anpum village and a hanging bridge at Loklung village connecting to the agricultural fields were also crushed out by the devastating flood. “A relief camp is being set up at Anpum School ground for the flood victims and though the water level has receded but the erosion is still continuing. Many villagers are also dismantling their dwelling houses for fear of being washed away by flood water,” lamented Pertin. The district administration, for the time being has lifted 94 bags of rice and essential medicines to Dambuk ADC headquarters, the report added.
