From being one of the country's shining stars - Maharashtra's real economic growth averaged 7 per cent over the last 15 years, as compared to India's 6 - Maharashtra today has a growth lower than that for Rajasthan and even Haryana. in trend terms its growth has fallen from 7.3 per cent over the last 15 years, to 5.3 percent over the last 4 years, to a mere 2.7 last year. The Maharashtra government, finance minister Jayant Patil said, has planned major reforms, and is even going to introduce a fiscal responsibility bill in the winter session of the assembly, to curb expenditure.
