Forest in Punjab would be developed by planting 10,000 hectares of land, 12,000 hectares of private farm land and 500 hectares of land under joint ventures of the government and private entrepreneurs. According to the forest department officials of Pakistan, community forestry development programme was also under way in collaboration with the US aid. A detail study during a recent soil survey of various parts of the Punjab revealed that pathetic state of many of those areas, where the problem of waterlogging and salinity had assumed an alarming proportion, and if corrective measures were not taken immediately, half of the total agricultural land may be at stake.
