Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) stormed into popular imagination as an agent of progressive change but, overtime, it has also served to show up the softer underbelly of transportation planning in the country. The Supreme Court's order to switch the Capital's public transport entirely to CNG by September 30 resulted in panic followed by a mad scramble. Now, it seems the natural gas too has its share of problems. Delhi's transport minister, Parvez Hashmi, informs that all is quiet on the CNG front at the movement. Nobody is going in for either new CNG buses or conversion kits because everyone is waiting for the Bhure Lal Committee to submit its report on ultra-low sulphur diesel by May 28.
