Living conditions in rural India seems to have been improving in recent years as highlighted by the recent survey by NSSO. In terms of dwelling, a large number of katcha houses are being replaced by semi-pucca and pucca structures. Moreover, households are increasingly switching from biomass to cleaner fuels like LPG for cooking. The percentage of households using electricity has also outstripped the number using kerosene. The 59th round of the NSSO survey shows a steady rise in rural India since 1999-00.
