In a bid to fill in the gap due to the absence of legal protection to India's biological resources and traditional knowledge systems, the Global Environment facility (GEF) has decided to fund a national biodiversity project to explore sustainable use and valuation of biodiversity and Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) requirements. The project, 'Biodiversity Strategic Action Plan' (BSAP), to be implemented by the Ministry of Environment and Forests (MEF), will be finalised shortly, GEF sources told The Observer of Business and Politics. GEF is contributing around $1 million for the project.
