- Gene causing cataract found

  • 12/03/1998

Scientists at the Centre for Genetic Diorders, Guru Nanak University, have succeeded in localising a new gene on chromosome 22, which causes cerulean cataract with sutural opacities. The Centre had been working in collaboration with Dr Daljit Singh Eye Hospital for the past several years to trace the genetic factors responsible for congenital cataract. The final breakthrough came in the case of a five generation family, having more than 30 affected individuals.
