Geo-scientists have still not been able to calculate the exact amount of energy released during the earthquake that rocked the entire Mahakaushal region last month but assumed it should equal energy released by explosion of 300 tonnes of trinitrotoluene (TNT) dynamite in fair assessment basis. According to Geological Survey of India (GSI) sources, the totalenergy released during the May 22, 1997 earthquake was equal to about 8000-10000 tonnes of TNT explosion.
