The new German Government will hold formal talks with the power companies next month on plans to shut down the country's 19 nuclear power plants. The German Chancellor, Mr. Gerhard Schroeder, made the announcement yesterday after holding preliminary talks with four leading nuclear-energy operators on a strategy for scrapping nuclear power.
