Globalisation is a success story in India, but the country's record in human development is mixed, according to the Human Development Report, 2005, released. While the incidence of income poverty has declined from about 36% in the early 1990s to between 25% and 30% today, the "pick-up in growth has not translated into a commensurate decline in poverty,' it says. "Some of India's southern cities may be in the midst of a technology boom, but one in every 11 Indian children dies in the first five years of life for lack of low-technology, low-cost interventions.'
