Noted Gandhian and anti-nuclear activist, Dr. Sangamitra Gadekar, has termed the choice of the Rajasthan Atomic Power Station (RAPS) at Rawatbhata for this year's Golden Peacock Environment Management Foundation as a "cruel joke". Dr Gadekar, who conducted a study on the impact of radiation on the people and animals in five villages located near RAPS in the year 1991, charged that the local people continued to be at great risk due to the effect of the radiation.
