With public concern over the safety of drinking water mounting, local environmentalists are questioning a recent government test that declared bottled water produced in the Chungchong provinces to be safe. The Ministry of Environment tested 22 types of bottled water from the provinces in response to an allegation that ground water there and bottled water produced from it contain high levels of radioactive materials. The ministry's test results show that the area's uranium and radon levels are lower than the permissible levels in other countries. Based on these findings, ministry officials declared that bottled water from Chungchong provinces are safe for drinking and that the public need not be alarmed.
