Government to expedite alternate projects

BHUBANESWAR: The State Government has decided to expedite the completion of alternate projects based on non-conventional energy sources.
Minister of State for Science and Technology Ramesh Majhi reviewed the situation at a highlevel meeting today.
The State Government has approved 14 biomass power plants for generation of 173 MW power.
These are expected to be completed in the next 18 months.
Similarly, 294 MW will be generated from solar energy. Besides, work has started to light up 259 inaccessible villages under the remote village electrification programme.
Out of these, 223 villages had been lighted up. The programme will be completed in the 2009-10 financial year. Secretary in the Science and Technology Department SP Thakur and senior officials attended the meeting.
