Government to privatise nuclear power sector

The Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited has decided to invite private sector participation in the setting up of four of its nuclear power plants, making a significant development in the Indian nuclear power sector. The NPCIL is the nuclear power utility of the government of India. The power plants to be privatised are 2x220 mw Kaiga nuclear power stations in Karnataka and two 2x220 mw power plants in Punjab. All these power plants will be based on the Pressurized Heavy water Reactors. NPCIL has also given the mandate to the state-owned Power Finance Corporation for selecting the private sector players for the proposed joint ventures.
