Environmental activists yesterday called on the government to suspend and review the planned construction of nuclear research facilities in Nakhon Nayok. In an open letter to Prime Minister Chuan Leekpai, a group of eight organisations voiced opposition to the Office of Atomic Energy for Peace's nuclear research project on grounds that it lacked public participation. US-based General Atomic has won a bid to construct facilities including a 10-megawatt reactor, radioactive waste disposal and isotope production facilities at Ongkharak Nuclear Research Centre.
