The policy formulation, declarations and achievements of the Government in the context of the United Nations Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) were examined in a report released in Jaipur on Saturday with the observation that the rural areas were witnessing a "severe crisis" depicted by starvation deaths, farmers' suicides and migration of agricultural labourers. The report, "Securing rights: Citizens' report on MDGs", was prepared by a coalition of citizens' groups and non-Government organisations, "Wada Na Todo Abhiyaan" (keep your promises) after holding focused group discussions in 1,541 villages spread across 13 States in the country. The summary of the report was released simultaneously in New Delhi and Jaipur.
