Buoyed by the recent order of Delhi High Court, Delhi Government has initiated the process of execution of other BRT corridors between Karawal Nagar and Gandhi Nagar and Bhajanpura to Mori Gate. The Delhi Integrated Multi Model Transit System (DIMTS), a nodal agency is likely to make a detailed presentation before Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on the proposed stretches on Tuesday. If the Government approves the alignment of the proposed corridors, it would be the second BRT corridor to come up.
The Detailed Project Report (DPR) for this BRT was ready in 2009, has been modified after suggestions from UTTEPEC. The proposed corridor would cost `340 crore. However, the Delhi Government had not made any provisions in its budget
2012-13 for the proposed BRT corridor.
Insiders say Karawal Nagar BRT corridor is likely to be split into four — (a) Karawal Nagar to Shastri Park Metro station (8.45 km) (b) Mori Gate terminal to Shastri Park junction (about 4 km) (c) Khajuri Junction to Yamuna Vihar on Wazirabad Road (3 km) and (d) Shastri Park Metro station to Gandhi Nagar Marginal Bund Road (1.7 km). There will be separate lanes for movement of buses on the line of railway track on Pusta side. The corridor will have open bus stand. Earlier, it was proposed a closed bus stand for this corridor.
For the proposed section of BRT corridor from Khajuri Chowk to Yamuna Vihar, a single left kerb side fully segregated BRT lane may be provided. For emergency evacuation and overtaking, a mountable kerb can be considered for the footpath MUZ separating the bus lane from the service lane. Out of the three design options presented for Buland Masjid area circulation system, the option with one lane of segregated
bus way with support of Intelligent Signaling System for directional management was agreed by members.
The police have requested full barricading of the segregated bus-way. In its observations, the UTTIPEC has cautioned transport department that proper sewage outlet is not available on the proposed stretch of the BRT which resulting the flooding on the road. Even, due to lack of sewage system, water logging is common phenomenon here so junctions and interchange should be carefully designed. To avoid conflict of vehicles at Shastri park traffic intersection, DIMTS has proposed construction of a split flyover for vehicles moving on GT Road.
