The Gujarat government on Wednesday decided to set up a top-level seven-person expert committee to study the sharp deterioration in the availability of water resources in north Gujarat both drinking water and irrigation purposes. Likely to be headed by senior water resources expert, Mr CC Patel, who works as a consultant with the state government in the Narmada and major irrigation projects department, the committee would find out the main reasons for the sharp fall in underground water in north Gujarat's five districts- Banaskantha, Mensana, Patan, Sabarkantha and Gandhinagar-- while suggesting ways to tap rainwater.
