The UK government will announce the go-ahead for more than 250 environmentally friendly electricity generation projects expected to produce enough power to supply 1.4m homes. John Battle, energy minister, will also disclose that the cost of green electricity generation has been cut to within striking distance of the average price of conventional power, from nearly double four years ago.
