In 1986, Homi J H Taleyarkhan, noted freedom fighter, former governor of Sikkim and former ambassador to Italy and Libya, founded the Urja Research Foundation. Promoted by Industrial Boilers Ltd, it is a voluntary non-profit, non-governmental organisation working with a missionary zeal for promotion of the national cause of conservation of energy and preservation of environment. Now that the fossilised fuel reserve stock is depleting at an alarming rate, the global efforts are directed to prolong the existing stock through reservation of energy with an eye on non-conventional renewable sources as the only alternative.
