The environmental group Greenpeace criticised the European Commission yesterday for accepting Slovakia's decision to begin shutting potentially unsafe nuclear reactors no earlier than 2006. It warned that the Commission's position could increase the risk that other eastern European countries operating similar reactors could also seek longer phase-out periods for their power stations.
