Delhi got more rain this winter than average but the Central Ground Water Board isn't celebrating. The groundwater is now 2-10 m lower than what is usual for this time of the year. Groundwater is critical in south and southwest Delhi, districts where tubewells were banned two years ago. Groundwater has always been low in Ghitorni and Lado Sarai but even here the levels are now 6 m and 10 m. Rainwater harvesting in JNU and IIT has not helped. Groundwater in JNU fell by 2.5 m last month. Sanjay Van, a forest area in southwest , is the only place where groundwater has been constant. The level post winter is 1.08 m.
