Haryana draws R4,058-cr plan for power generation

Chandigarh The Haryana government has come out with an ambitious plan of R4,058.55 crore to increase the power generation in the state. The state government will construct 174 new sub-stations of different levels and will also augment capacity of 98 existing substations.
Enquries by FE revealed that t hough Haryana Power Utilities this July supplied record 1,337.94 lakh units of electricity on a single day surpassing its previous record of 1,327.90 lakh units of electricity. However, the highest-ever demand of 6,185 mw was on June 24. in fact officials point out that if there is normal monsoon, the average daily demand of power will be 5,716.58 mw during July-August; 5,453.78 mw in September 1-15, and 5,254.34 mw from September 16-30.
The new power plan will be completed in three years in a phased manner so that annual increase in load could be met. The state power nodal body will erect transmission lines of a length of 3,232 km for connectivity of the new sub-stations.
State power minister Capt Ajay Singh Yadav said load on transmission system also increased with the increase in demand. To meet the increased load, the power utilities in the state commissioned 273 new substations of various levels, augmented capacity of 487 existing substations and erected 3,862 km long transmission lines during last six years due to which the system has been able to take load as per demand of electricity in the state.
The minister said that the Haryana Vidyut Prasaran Nigam has started construction and operation of the substations of 400 KV level also in the state. First such substation has been commissioned at village Kirodi in district Hisar to evacuate power generated at the Rajiv Gandhi Thermal Power Station Khedar. Second State owned and controlled substation of 400 KV level has been set up at Daultabad to evacuate power generated at the Indra Gandhi Thermal Power Plant, Jharli. Three more 400 KV substations are being constructed at Nuhianwali in district Sirsa, Dhanauda in district Mahendragarh and Navada in district Faridabad.
Yadav said that to strengthen power transmission and distribution system in district Sirsa, the Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam and the Haryana Vidyut Prasaran Nigam have an ambitious plan of Rs 335 crore under which the power utilities would construct additional 17 substations and augment capacity of 18 substations of different levels. The new substations include 400 KV substation Nuhianwali, 220 KV substation Chormar and 33 KV substations Jandwala Jattan, Shergarh, mallekan, Lehngewala, Khokhar, Pipli, Panjmala, Dadu, Dhottar, Bani, Ottu, Sukhchain, Bahiya, Damdama and Dhundhianwali.
Besides this, the plan includes setting up of 2500 additional transformers in the existing network in the district and augmentation of capacity of 1100 old transformers. As many as 1250 transformers will be set up during the current fiscal.
