More number of Domestic Breeding Checkers have been deployed
With Kerala witnessing a major dengue outbreak, Health Department has intensified surveillance and preventive measures in Coimbatore. With a decent share of South-West monsoon received, sporadic cases of dengue are being reported in the district.
As on Thursday, six persons were undergoing treatment for dengue at Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH). Meanwhile, details of patients getting treated at private hospitals were not available.
P.G. Bhanumathi, Deputy Director Health Services, Coimbatore, said that more number of Domestic Breeding Checkers (DBC) have been deployed in areas were dengue cases are reported. The field staff engaged in house visits are educating the public to prevent mosquitoes breeding.
Dr. Bhanumathi said that artificial collection of water in coconut shell, waist material, and water storage items, must be cleared as they would aid breeding of aedes aegypti, the mosquito that spreads dengue.
Special meeting
Health Department in association with Indian Medical Association will conduct a special meeting of doctors in Pollachi on Friday on measures to be taken to combat dengue and fever cases.
The meeting will be attended by doctors from private hospitals, government hospitals and primary health centres.
“It is planned as a reorientation for doctors in handling dengue cases effectively,” said Dr. Bhanumathi.
Dr. Bhanumathi said that Health Department was prepared to handle A (H1N1) influenza cases and medical teams were ready to conduct medical camps and fever surveillance in affected areas.
