Heaviest rains in 46 yrs leave 44 dead in Himachal

Shimla: At least 44 people were feared dead in building collapses and landslides triggered by heavy rains across Himachal Pradesh on Saturday. Reports of inundated roads, stranded vehicles, disrupted water supply, power and communication lines poured in as vigorous monsoon continued to lash the state.
According to the meteorological office, 177.1 mm rain on Saturday breaks the 46-year-old record in the state. The previous 24-hour highest rain stat is 158 mm, recorded on September 21, 1962, the met office said.
SP, CID, Daljit Thakur said,
